The New 7.1 M&K Sound Home Theater Demo Room at THX, San Francisco

The iconic front baffle layout of the famed S750 monitor with its triple-tweeter array alongside dual woofers is also an integral aspect of the design and performance of the S300.

Passing the THX Test

The THX testing facility room is used for qualitative testing of home theater components. Every receiver, amplifier and pre-amp that is submitted for THX Certification must pass hundreds, in some cases up to 2,000 THX laboratory tests. After passing these tests the component is installed into the demo room.

The THX engineers then play hours of various films and music recordings to ensure the components sound the way they’re supposed to – as the artist  intended. It is only after the engineers are happy with what they hear in this room, will the audio component officially receive THX Certification

The M&K Sound demo room

The 7.1 M&K Sound system in the Home Theater demo room uses S300 LCRs, S300Ts for side and rear effects and two X12 subwoofers.

There is also a 7.1.4 Atmos configuration that uses the same LCRs and subwoofers but the MP300’s for side and rear surrounds plus another manufacturer’s loudspeakers for the four ceiling effect channels. In the standard 7.1 configuration, it’s all M&K sound.

We are impressed with the performance of the new THX Ultra2 Certifed M&K S300. It is evident that a lot of attention was paid to the design and component selection of this product and this effort shows in the system’s ability to deliver a smooth response with high output and very low distortion.
